Times and people are changing. And, unbeknownst to us, there are already a great many people who have never experienced a world without the Internet and cannot even imagine such a thing. There is already a whole generation of people who do not remember the pre-Internet era and have never experienced such a thing, or were merely too young to even notice such a “lack.”
For many of us, the Internet is already commonplace. To say that we lived without the Internet would hardly be understood. Just as many modern people no longer understand that just a short time ago they had to put up with a connection over a conventional telephone line with the help of a modem. What could they possibly do with something that slow? It often took a long time just to download a small image, let alone a video or other file.
Similarly, to understand how the Internet could satisfy us back then without Google and similar search engines, probably be difficult for anyone. After all, finding something specific on something like that was bound to be a punishment.
Yes, times change and the Internet changes with them. And it is changing at a dizzying pace.
How many letters or postcards have you personally sent if you belong to the younger generation? In my generation, letters and postcards were the only means of communication for half of our lives. There was no such thing as e-mail, so you took a piece of paper and a pen, put it in an envelope, put a stamp on it, and off to the mailbox or the post office you went.
And how many newspapers and magazines have you young people read in your lifetime? I think much less than we do. This is because in our time there were only newspapers and magazines, and it took half a lifetime for Internet news to start replacing them. And there are still many things in our lives that have been greatly affected by the Internet. We rarely place ads in newspapers anymore, we find friends on social networks rather than looking for friends in our neighborhoods, we don\’t go shopping in physical stores as often…And who of my generation could have imagined this when they were young? Probably no one.
