At first glance, washing and blow drying your hair seems like a no-brainer, something anyone can do – wash your hair with soap, towel dry, and blow dry. But in reality, it is not that easy, and unfortunately, if we are not careful every time we wash or blow-dry our hair, we can make many mistakes that can cause serious damage to our hair. All it takes is a few habit changes.
Now let\’s start with pre-wash conditioning. Before washing your hair, be sure to brush it. On the one hand, this prevents “frizz” from growing and tangling during the wash, and on the other hand, it helps to evenly distribute the natural oils/grease in your hair, which will nourish it. Always comb from the bottom up. If you comb from the top, the “buns” may move downward, making it even more difficult to comb.
Once the hair is untangled, it is time to wash the hair. First, wet your hair thoroughly, even with lukewarm water, so that the scales will open and the active ingredients of the shampoo and conditioner will enter your hair. Wash hair twice: the first wash removes sebum, dirt, dust, and various styling products from the hair, and the second wash allows the shampoo\’s active ingredients to penetrate. Shampoo should be applied only to the scalp, not to the ends of the hair. When you rinse your hair with water, you will get water with a little shampoo on the ends of your hair, and that is enough. Shampoo should not be left on for too long and should be rinsed out as soon as possible.
When washing, do not forget to apply a conditioner or mask. Always squeeze the moisture out of your hair before applying conditioner or mask, and ideally let it dry a bit, so the mask and conditioner will work better. Leave it on your hair for the time indicated on the package.
After washing, squeeze water out of hair with your fingers and pat dry with a towel. Do not rub your hair unnecessarily, but use the towel to squeeze the water out of your hair. A turban may be made, but should be made for a short period of time, about 10 minutes.
When blow drying, set the temperature of the hair dryer to low. Apply a heat protectant to the hair before heat treating. Always blow-dry in the direction of hair growth, from roots to ends. Finally, set with cold air.
