For babies, cribs are definitely for sleeping. Quality design, solid construction, and a good mattress. Many mothers also use crib rails to prevent their babies from bumping into the edge of the crib while sleeping or injuring their little legs or arms by getting them out from between the bars. For small babies, the slats should be as high as possible so that they can reach the baby and not have to bend over unnecessarily. This is dangerous because the baby is not yet mobile enough.
As the baby develops and grows, the slats move lower and lower.
Cribs are designedfor children up to approximately age 3 . However, there is a “but” that applies when the child is older and the crib is no longer comfortable, or when the child can swing around on the rails and is in danger of falling. Babies are extremely resourceful and should be constantly monitored and their abilities kept abreast of. Some cribs
have severalpull-out barsthat allow an already grown child to slip out of the crib by himself. This is certainly a convenient solution, but sometimes a pull-out divider is not.
In this case, another option comes into play, namely removing the entire sidewall from the crib. However, because of the sudden openness, there is concern that the child may fall out and injure himself or herself while sleeping.
Therefore, a solution would be to move the crib to the parents\’ double bed. The open space would no longer be dangerous for the baby because he or she would not fall in, and if he or she wakes up, the mother would be able to notice him or her immediately and take care of the baby.
This option is very much appreciated by breastfeeding mothers and mothers whose children frequently wake up in the middle of the night; carrying a 10+ pound baby multiple times a night is no small feat. Furthermore, the larger and heavier the baby, the more difficult it is to carry him or her without disturbing him or her. As a result, babies often wake up several times during transport.
When moving the crib to the parents\’ bed, simply lifting the child slightly and moving him or her slightly can help everyone continue to sleep peacefully. Both child and parents get their own space, but they are still essentially close together, with no uncomfortable barriers and no danger from falling.
