If you look around, many children, even younger children, already have cell phones. In some cases, even children who have just entered kindergarten can easily operate them. However, that is not a good example. The magical period of a young child should not be affected by such things. So when is the ideal age?
Of course, opinions differ. Some people take first grade as their cue, others take second grade as their cue. It depends on each person. However, most people will give their children a phone at the age of 8-10. This is consistent with the views of psychologists who support the age of 10.
If a child goes to elementary school, attends clubs, or is generally away from home a lot, it is not wrong to give them a cell phone. However, a regular, low-cost button phone will suffice. If they get bored, they can play games. There are touchless phones, too.
But if you have a small child in front of you, that is not necessary. When he starts to become independent and you trust him, then that\’s the time. Furthermore, let\’s be honest. Without a cell phone, your child may be excluded from the group for being a “freak”. So, try not to be too late.
Touch has the advantage of having useful apps to practice teaching materials and language, and to develop logical thinking and creativity. There is also an option to block certain pages, so you don\’t have to worry about keeping an eye on your little one.
Be careful, however, that your child does not become dependent or feel inferior. Teach them what time they should not spend on their phones and what social networks they should not download. For example, Instagram is for ages 13 and so is YouTube. If your child really wants to follow their favorite YouTubers, lend them your phone so they can keep track of who they are following and how much.
Don\’t ban your child\’s phone for fear of what\’s ahead. At your child\’s age, you may not feel comfortable doing so. When you give them a smartphone, set some limits and give them freedom. Who will be happy if their parents control their every move and they lose their privacy?
